Question by thecucuzza: How can I stop my snoring?
I’ve been reading all sorts of answers here on Yahoo and I can’t really find a solution to my problem. I have a snoring problem and my roomate doesn’t stop letting me know about it. Frankly, it’s getting annoying and offensive. I, however, understand that I keep him up at times and am not allowing him to get enough sleep some nights. Now, I’ve tried a bunch of things such as sprays, nasal strips, sleeping in all sorts of positions… all to no avail. What’s weird is that I also do not snore all night, I do in intervals. Anyone have any other suggestions? I don’t think I have sleep apnea because I don’t wake up much, if at all, at night in the middle of sleeping. Nevertheless, where could I go to get tested to see if I have the condition? Also, I read something about adenoid removal. Is there any place where I can get more information about it’s side effects, long-term effects, and how much a surgery like that would cost, its process, and how long it lasts? Any suggestions?

Try sleeping raised up. Use a few more pillows or a bed wedge. It should help.

Are you overweight? If so, try losing some weight. Even ten pounds might make a difference. Sleeping on your back makes snoring worse too.

Almost all treatment for snoring revolves around clearing the blockage in the breathing passage. This is the reason snorers are advised to lose weight (to stop fat from pressing on the throat), to stop smoking (smoking weakens and clogs the throat), and to sleep on their side (to prevent the tongue from blocking the throat).

    Dental appliances
Specially made dental appliances such as a mandibular advancement splint, which advance the lower jaw slightly, and thereby pull the tongue forward, are a preferred mode of treatment for social snoring. Typically, a dentist specializing in sleep apnea dentistry is consulted. Such appliances have been proven to be effective in reducing snoring.

A Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine is often used .

Surgery is also available to correct social snoring. Some procedures, such as uvulopalatopharyngoplasty attempt to widen the airway by removing tissues in the back of the throat including the uvula and pharynx. These surgeries are quite invasive, and there are risks of adverse side effects. The most dangerous risk is that enough scar tissue could form within the throat as a result of the incisions to make the airway more narrow than it was prior to surgery.

Snoring can be reduced by changing position on the bed; Sleeping on the side is a possible solution, to avoid rolling back it is possible to place a pillow or a “ball” on the back; raising the head is also another option, useful both while lying on the back or for supporting the head while lying on the side.

so I suggest you the last method of changing position as all other methods have some side effects. BEST OF LUCK.

Understand you have already tried a few method but still not workable, there additional ones and hope one of it can work.

    a) Sleep Posture Correction
Do you sleep on your back? If so, you are probably worsen the snoring problem as your tongue will slip back into the throat and cause the blockage of airway. Simply by making yourself sleep on your side can stop the snoring. How to work without sleeping on back, simply sew a socket on your pajamas and stick a tennis ball in it during bedtime. Easy and simple, Right!! Or you can try various kinds of pillows and strap-on devices to help you unsupine.

    #2 – Elevate your head
Pillow can block the airway by bending the neck, try without using a pillow. Or try various kinds of specially-designed pillow for snorers.

T#2 – Avoid Alcohol and Fatty products before bed
Alcohol is a muscle relaxant which can cause the relaxation of throat muscles and worsen snoring. Avoid high-fat dairy milk products before sleeping as the fatty retained in the throat which more likely lead to snoring.

For myself, I am doing some research and studies on Snoring Topics and the effect of snoring affectiing people in same room.
