Posted by: Alan in Stop Snoring Remedies, tags: Mucus, Snoring, ThroatAbout every 10 minutes it feels as if I have to “hawk” and spit. And then my friends keep tellin me that I snore loudly. What is something i could do about this. I there some medicine i could take or is it my tonsils?

Sounds like you have blocked nasal sinuses. This can cause a post nasal drip (into the back of the throat) and can contribute to your snoring. As you will find it difficult to breath through the nose when lying down. I suggest you get this checked out, as you may need treatment.

I had the snoring problem until my tonsils were removed but mine were removed for getting sick too much and in the end they got so swollen I couldn’t swallow and eat hardly, really “hurt”. As far as the mucus hawking, not saying this is “your” problem but myself I have problems with it. I went to a allergy specialist and he diagnoised me with bad allergies, needing endoscopic sinus surgery(which been unable to have due to no insurance and finances)..he said my nasal passage was crooked and the lining was like not opened enough to where air could get through properly so result I get your mucus hawking problem without medicine and no surgery. He gave me Nasonex, a nasal spray. I’ve used Nasacort AQ too as a nasal spray but both are “prescription” and pricy for ones without insurance, like me..running in my area each @$60-80 but I tell you they “help” a lot with my hawking problem. I notice being able to breathe better and easier too, although I know each thing works differently on each person. The doctor explained it’s the steroid in it that helps out so much compared to otc nasal sprays which don’t contain that. I worried the steroid ingredient might be causing more harm than good but it’s safe. I use it 1-2 sprays per side. I’ve used this for a good 7 years now so it works for me when I can “afford” it. Just pricy and doc prescribed. Each person is different though. I’m no doctor but just by my experience not to say you’re the same as me but I hope that might help or at least an idea of what to look into for you. I wish you the best of luck either way. Last but not least I hear those breathe strips help with snoring but I’ve not tried them first hand or maybe how you lay sleeping cause create snoring issues too. Sorry I can’t help more but I know how frustrating it is wondering and having those problems. Good luck.
