My hubbys is 35 and im 24 for the last 5 and a bit yrs I have been wearing earplugs everynight cause of my hubbys really bad snoring problem. We have a 2 1/2yr old and I am so frightend that I cant hear her so I have a really good monitor in her room and turn my part up really loud just to hear her. I now have a 1 month old and I am now sleeping in her room till he does something about his snoring. He has been to many sleep clinics and they say he has sleep apnoea and he needs to where a mouth guard but I think they were wrong because he cant breath through his mouth so what would be the point of that. Anyway my friend had the same problem and she had her Adenoide and tonsils removed and now doesnt snore. Q is how much does it cost and how can we go about getting it done for him. Cause I dont want our relationship to fall apart cause of it, I mean 5yrs is enough for me I cant tell you how many times I had infected ears cause it.

The American Lung Association may be able to help him get a CPAP machine. If that doen’t work, try your county health department.
The apnea must be treated/managed because it can lead to sudden death from a heart attack or respiratory failure.
My question to you is this– if you are considering surgery, why can’t you afford a CPAP machine? It seems surgery would be a bit more expensive.
Having the tonsils and adenoids out wouldn’t help, since you said he can’t breathe through his mouth, which tells me he CAN breathe through his nose. Since this is the case,
his apnea may not be the type which is called “obstructive sleep apnea”, particularly if he isn’t obese. He likely has “central sleep apnea”, which has to do with the nervous system.
You can also apply for Medicaid, or go through the county system and get him qualified as “medically indigent” so he can get free, or low cost, treatment.

Before surgery, try nasal spray made specially to reduce snoring. Sold at CVS. They also sell a little plastic thing you put in your nose to keep the nasal passage open. It’s cheap and worth a try.
He should sleep on his side, not his back. Did he try the mouth guard? maybe it will work.
You’d have to ask a doctor or a clinic about how much it costs.

My hubby had his tonsils and adenoids out as a child and snores like you wouldn’t believe. He did sleep studies also and found that he has sleep apnea as well as he’s missing sleep stages 3 and 4.
He now has a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) machine that he wears at night. Most nites, it’s blissfully peaceful. There are the occasions when he pulls it off while he’s sleeping or his strap doesn’t keep his mouth closed that are annoying but NOTHING like the SNORING!
Have your hubby ask the doc about a CPAP and chin strap. If it’s prescribed, the insurance will help with the cost.
    Good Luck!

Having his tonsils out won’t make one bit of difference to his snoring, I had both out when I was younger and I still snore occasionally.
The only thing I do when I am bunged up and can’t breath through my mouth when I am laying down, is wear one of them nose strips across the bridge of my nose which opens up the nasal airways and have a dose of Night Nurse (UK) from the chemist to help me sleep, I never snore with this combination !

He may have sleep apneia. He will have to go get checked out for that. It could be a serious problem if it is. Sleep Apneia can cause snoring. Its a problem with breathing during sleep time and can be corrected. Also, try Breathe Right Strips sold at the drug store. They also help with snoring.
