Question by Read My ?Lips?: What can I do about my husbands snoring?
I can’t sleep with his loud snoring and nothing helps, short of him sleeping in another room. We’ve tried the nasal strips and the SnoreStop with no success… Other than surgery, what else can we do?

He needs a sleep study done to determine if he has sleep apnea. If so, they can give him a CPAP machine to help out.

I have slept with him before and I don’t remember it being a problem, but now, it’s horrible. I have to ask him to let me go to sleep first! Sometimes during the night it wakes me up and he also farts in his sleep.Rolling him over doesn’t seem to help at all! Any remedies for these annoying actions-divorce is not an option?!

He is working on losing weight but its going to take awhile before he loses the weight. Will a tonsillectomy reduce snoring?

I have a couple questions for you. Does your husband snore evey night? and, does he fall asleep really fast? If so, it sounds like he is suffering from sleep apnea. Here is how sleep apnea occurs. The patient predisposed to obstructive sleep apnea has a small pharyngeal airway. During sleep, the pharyngeal muscles relax, allowing the airway to close. Lack of airflow results in repeated apneic episodes. Which means the patient wakes up to as many as four hundred times a night and the patient gets absolutly no sleep and there for is constinly tierd and can fall asleep at will.
I would suggest you have him do a sleep lab at your local hospital. What they will do is fit him for a mask and then wire him up and watch him sleep. If he is suffering from apnea they will wake him and turn the air on to the mask and then moniter his sleep again. When I say air I mean just that. It is air NOT OXYGEN.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 208.596.0106. I am Doctor Mark. Take care and good luck!

BTW: We’ve only been married for 3+ weeks.
