Question by mjmackinnon: I need to wear earplugs to bed but if I wear both I wake up nauseated so I can only wear 1. Suggestions?
My husband snores – I try to wear one plug and just push the other ear hard into my pillow but it doesn’t work very well. Two plugs blocks him out completely but I wake up dizzy and sick. I wear the cheap foam earplugs, I wonder if there is a brand that won’t do this to me?

It sounds like you might have vertigo, BPPV, or another vestibular disorder. You should get it checked out by an ENT doctor or get a referral for vestibular therapy so that a certified vestibular/physical therapist can check it out.

Question by general_jimbo: Difficulties with snoring and my sleep. Need help bad!!!?
Ok I went to sleep studies and got put on a CPAP machine although I think I isn’t really warranted because my apnea was not that bad, number-wise. So I am on this machine for a while now and my mask id the one that goes into my nostrils because I have a beard and the one that covers the nose leaks air and wakes me up. Well Lately the mask I am wearing makes my nostrils feel like they are on fire when I breathe in and the only relief is to take it off. But in doing this my wife of course is woken up and has a bad nights sleep after that. Is there a solid solution to snoring that does not include a CPAP machine? I don’t feel any more refreshed in the morning with or without the machine. I am not really over weight but when I was thinner I didn’t snore as much. I just need solutions so I don’t drive my wife crazy again with the snoring!

There is a surgical solution, which may be suitable for you. Have a chat with your doctor about it.

Personally, I find that some sinus decongestant tablets such as Sinutab work really well to help me stop snoring.

Question by PleaseHelp!: I need serious help!!! How do you block a neighbor from muting your television?
I have lived in a complex that has NO installation for several years now. A little over a year ago, new loud neighbors have moved in the apartment above me and the couple do NOT sleep regular hours. I NEED 7-8hrs and they sleep about 3hrs EVERY night! I work. They do not. Because there is NO installation between our units. I hear EVERYTHING they do, if my unit is quiet. So I have started sleeping with the TV on since my body became soooo drained trying to deal with lack of sleep and I even started missing work, because I was too tired to go. Since then, I started sleeping with the TV on. I was able to get enough sleep to take care of most of my daily activities, like work for weeks. However, my neighbors HATE that I sleep with it on all night, because they want it quiet when they’re trying to sleep. I’ve tried talking to them politely, then humorously, then yelling at them and banging on my walls etc. They have told me, I just need to learn to deal with it. Well, my way of dealing with it, is trying to block them out with my tv. It’s not blaring out. I keep it on a medium level when sleeping. But they can still hear it.

Anyway, they now have figured out a way to mute my tv at night when I’m sleeping and they still wake me up. Because I snore..lol…yesss, I snore…but not so loud I sound like a train..lol. Anyway, when they hear me stop snoring, they turn the sound back on. This goes on numerous times a night and for weeks now. I am miserable, but can’t afford to sell my unit and move. So can someone…anyone…pleaseeee tell me how to stop them from doing this??? I use a comcast cable box and believe they do too, if that helps. I have also noticed that when I turn my box off and leave the tv on, the picture goes away but the sound remains for a few more seconds before cutting off.

What device to they have and how do I stop them??? I am so very very tired and NEED sleep!!!!

Signed,
Really Miserable

Buy yourself a nice set of headphones that cover your ears, plug into to your cd player or radio, turn the volume where it is comfy, then snooze on. Been there, done that. Neighbors suck.

Question by The Bohemian Blotch: I need a good pillow or sleeping aide for someone with back problems and snores?
I have a friend who sleeps on a hard futon, and he snores and has back problems. I want to buy him something for xmas that will help him sleep better and have better posture or position when he sleeps. Some things I have in mind are memory foam bed pads, or neck pillows… something to that idea.

A memory foam would be best. But call a chiropracter and see what he or she recommends for him as a gift! They might even suggest a place for good massage or something!
