Question by blondewithheart: How do you get a good night sleep next to your spouse?
My husband and I have recently married and so have only slept in the same bed for about a year with no problems. But now he’s put on some serious weight and it’s effecting how *I* sleep. For one, the access weight has created this slant….whenever he gets into bed (I usually hit the hay earlier than he does) I literally roll from my side into him (lol). And wake up. Then he tosses and turns like there is a wild boar next to me. I swear he jumps 10 ft up and slams back into the bed, which obviously wakes me up. He also just started snoring. Not too bad, but once he rouses me from sleep the snoring keeps me awake sometimes. And guys, we have a fairly-new bed that I bought for my bad back that set me back $ 1600 – on sale. What can a girl do? I’m exhausted when I wake up in the morning. I think it’s especially bad for me, who always idolized my bed as my “peace zone”. What do you do to cope? I’m thinking about taking some sleep aids…..or murder. One of the two
)
PS- We plan on upgrading to a king (from the queen) to help, but that’s a few months away in our budget.
As we’re more or less newlyweds I just can’t bare to do seperate rooms. I can live with the snoring (which I know is caused by the weight gain). He played college basketball and worked out non-stop for the team- now he’s graduated and still eats the same (like a friggen horse) without the intense activity: hence the weight.

My husband and I prefer to sleep in different rooms; he snores, and our sleeping habits are too different. If I was forced to share a bed with him, a murder-suicide would be the most likely outcome.

It isn’t just snoring (I can usually nudge him, and he turns to his side and his snoring stops).
First of all, every night, all night long, his legs twitch. Constantly. It is almost non-stop, but he is totally asleep when it happens, so I don’t think it’s restless leg syndrome.
Then, at least a couple times a week, he sits straight up and tries to have a non-sensical conversation with me. He is asleep, but his eyes are open and he’s looking at me. If I ignore him, he says “hey, hey, hey” trying to get my answer. He usually seems to have something very urgent to tell me and so sometimes he’s loud enough to wake our daughter (she has enough of her own sleep problems as it is)! I have to say “You are SLEEPING” several times before he wakes up. Sometimes he gets up and walks across the room before realizing it was a dream.
It is really annoying! Is there anything he can do to remedy this?
I actually did used to have fun with it. Going along with his strange trains of thought. Listening to the weird crap that came out of his mouth. But it really isn’t too amusing when you want to sleep and my daughter is waking up, too!

Happy New Year,
I just returned from a chamber music concert that took place in a church. I attended alone and was seated next to a man who snored through much of the first performance. At intermission, he got up and disappeared and then returned for the second performance and promptly fell asleep again and began snoring. The place was packed and there were no other available seats. Since I didn’t attend with this man, I didn’t feel it was appropriate to nudge him or in some other fashion let him know he was being rude. We were seated in the middle of the church, so motioning for an attendant would also have been inappropriate. I don’t know if it bothered the people seated on the other side of him. I didn’t think to mention it to the attendant at intermission.
What would you have done, if anything?
