he likely has obstructive sleep apnea. sometimes a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine can be used to alleviate the snoring, but i wouldn’t recommend doing it as a first option. first try:
1. weight loss- often just dropping a few pounds will resolve it
2. have him sleep on his side
3. if he has enlarged tonsils/adenoids he may benefit from surgical excision
4. if nasal congestion is part of the problem, try simple OTC decongestants

i heard my dad make a whistling noise while he was breathing at night, first it was normal, then around every 10 seconds i would hear a little whistle. i saw the lung cancer commercial about hearing a whistling noise. my dad smoked since he was 12 and now he is 40. he had a checkup for lung cancer in february and nothing was found. the whistling noise also wasnt very loud, it was kind of faint.

Have you found any effective solution ? What do you think is a reason for his/her snoring ? Physical , psychological or both ? or something else ? Are you able to sleep well on background of such snoring ?
