Question by Jimmy Walls: How does the Pillar Procedure differ from other treatments for snoring?

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Helpful
The pillar procedure involves inserting plastic rigid struts under the skin of the soft palate to elevate the palate and create a less obstructed posterior pharynx. Other antisnoring treatments include CPAP, mandibular advancement devices and breathe-rite strips which are all non-invasive. The surgical procedure called uvulapalatopharyngyoplasty (UPPP) involves basically chopping out all the excess soft tissues in the posterior oropharynx (back of the mouth/top of the throat) in order to prevent obstruction. Pillars are obviously more invasive than CPAP and other non-invasive measures but less serious than the UPPP. Pillars can be done in -office as an outpatient.
