My father’s snoring is very loud and obtrusive. He will often take naps in our living room while the remainder of our family is watching television. Often, we need to turn up the TV to hear it over his snoring, even though it does not bother him.
Granted, I’m not an expert on the subject, but I’d say that one is not bothered by his own snoring because he is (at some level) controlling it himself–much like it is difficult to tickle yourself.
Best advice is to seek professional evaluation to detect for any sleeping disorders. Loud snoring may disrupt sleep without actually waking the person. Sleep apnea (pausing of breaths) can be a very serious effect of snoring that may be undetectable without proper testing.

Have you ever sat near someone who was snoring loudly? If not try it some time. I guarentee you’ll find it to be very annoying.
I find it very annoying because the snoring tends to be rather loud. Most people who snore have sleep apnea, a condition where they stop breathing for a few seconds and then take a huge gasping breath. I’m always afraid that the person isn’t going to start breathing again. Before my husband had surgery for sleep apnea he would often stop breathing for 10 seconds or more. It can be very scary for those who have never heard it before.
I also find snoring to be annoying because, to me, it’s the same as someone who is talking too loudly. When they’re awake you can ask them to please lower their voice, but when they’re alseep you can’t do much, other than wake them up and ask them not to sleep. If you ask them to not sleep because of their snoring, they can get upset with you, saying you’re the one being rude, not them.

I searched the web and found this program called “stop snoring exercise program “. Naturally the website itself raves about how effective it is; I wonder is others have the same glowing reports who have used it.
