Question by cpc26ca: Is there a darwinian reason for snoring?
I’m a guy and I know that I can’t freaking get to sleep if I hear my dad snoring. I feel like crazy gluing snorers noses. I mean, how can women sleep when their hubbies snore? Or is it because they are women, that they have some biological mechanism that blocks out snoring, letting them sleep. I wouldn’t think there’s any evolutionary purpose…it would only let other cavemen/predators know where you are, making it easy for them to prey on you.
I, myself, think that snoring is only something that modern man does. I don’t think men in prehistoric times grew to be fat or old enough to snore. Or is it only to do with the throat/windpipe, meaning that totally fit athletes snore as well?

Snoring is a medical condition. I don’t think it would provide an evolutionary benefit. It would make it easier for predators to find you in the dark. Old dogs also snore.

I have to share a room with my mom when we go to the islands on vacation for 7 days. At home her snores can be heard through the house(on all 3 levels) So I cannot imagine what it will be like to sleep in the same room. Is there anything that cures snoring? I love my mom and everything but somethings gotta give. Thanks for all the help.

There are lots of reasons why people snore–none of which can be cured quickly.
many people have ’sleep apnea’ and need to use a compressed forced breathing machine (called a C-Pap or Bi-Pap).
She may or may not have this.
people who are overweight tend to snore more.
people who sleep on their backs, also tend to snore more.
Anyway–for the trip, i suggest your mom sleep on 2-3 pillows, to prop her up.
Also you can buy her “Breathe Right” nasal strips, which help keep her nasal airways open, so she breathes through her nose while sleeping.
For you–buy some ear plugs. I use them all the time- I have the soft, squishy kind, and they work great.
best wishes to you both and have a nice trip!

Question by humpty dumpty: Is there a home remedy for snoring?
My husband snores and while I wear earplugs it is just getting ridiculous. He can be obstinate so will not try products on the market so that would be a waste of my money. But if there was something free I could try that and if he refused I wouldn’t be out of anything. Thank you.
Humble I appreciate that but now we live in one room and while we do have a sofa it is in earshot, lol.
I do sometimes lay a pillow gently on his face just to muffle the sound, but it can still be loud and then I also feel guilty.

Make him sleep on the couch or vice versa and see if he likes sleeping alone, maybe then he will understand how anoying it is to have his sleep disturbed and he willf eel your pain and try something off the market.
