He’s going to protect your home if someone breaks in. He needs no training or encouragement to be aggressive or territorial. Just ask your insurance company. Count yourself lucky that he is sensible enough to tell the difference between an intruder and someone legitimately knocking at the door.

Instead of protection training, convince yourself he’ll come through in a pinch. Arrange for a friend he does not know to tap on the outside of a window at night and see what he does.

I had my dog temperament tested. He was charged by a large man brandishing a club and yelling threats. He stood still and watched, doing nothing. He’s not a dumb dog. He knew the man was acting. But he’s plenty protective when a stranger approaches out of the dark and has scared off two intruders. That’s just an example of a dog with a good head on his shoulders.

Snoring isn’t a training issue. You can consult your vet to see if there is a medical solution, otherwise learn to live with it.

For the jumping up there are two solutions. The first is to step forward when he jumps up. This seems counter-intuitive, to walk into your dog. But with some dogs it works. Otherwise, teach him to sit for petting. always ask for the sit before you pet or greet him and when you see him coming in for the jump, command him to sit instead. Just remember to praise and pet him when he does.
